Khawla Al-Rawahi: We seek to create a suitable environment for women to practice their hobbies and talents

Khawla bint Rashid Al Rawahi, Head of the Sports Activities Department in the Women’s Sports Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, confirmed that the training course for girls in table tennis is the first of the workshops and tournaments that the department intends to implement this year and return after a long pause due to the Corona pandemic and the almost complete cessation of all activities, including sports. .

Al-Rawahieh, who is supervising the course, added that the department seeks, through these workshops, to create a suitable environment, especially for the female cadre, to practice their hobbies and talents, and that this environment be entirely female. Next November, the outcomes of this course will have a clear impact on the course of the tournament, which will be at the club level. Khawla Al-Rawahiah hoped that the coaches would transfer the experience and benefit to the clubs and their communities. Al-Rawahiah thanked the Oman Table Tennis Association for their great support in making this session a success and working together towards expanding the number of practitioners and participants in the game of table tennis.

This came at the end of the table tennis training course for girls in table tennis, which was held by the Women’s Sports Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and in cooperation with the Oman Table Tennis Association, with the participation of 18 trainees, representing 16 clubs, namely Al Salam, Sohar, Majis, Al Suwaiq, Al Khaboura, Salalah, Khasab, Al Ittihad, Al Mudhaibi, Saham, Al Nahda, Bahla, Al Basheer, Ibri, Qurayyat and Al Ettifaq. The course, which lasted for 3 days, included a theoretical side, which was a general overview of the game, the dimensions of the table and the basic skills in the game, in addition to how to play the game and train game players, so that the participants implemented a practical application about the information they took in the course. At the end of the session, the participants were honored in the presence of Abdullah Bamakhalaf, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Table Tennis Association, and HE Al-Ismailia, Director of the Women’s Sports Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.

For his part, Mohammed Al Jassassi, Board Member of the Omani Table Tennis Association and supervisor of coaches, explained that this course is the first of its kind, as it targeted only female coaches, and this is due to the idea of ​​the Women’s Sports Department in the Ministry. Al-Jassassi added: This session is the starting point for organizing a table tennis tournament, which will be next November, and all of its staff will be female. He stressed that the participation of 18 female coaches from various clubs of the Sultanate and various authorities is a source of happiness and joy for this great response.

enriching experience
As for Manar Al-Maamari, a teacher and a master’s student representing a Hebrew club, she pointed out that the course in general is an enjoyable and enriching experience with many information, experiences and skills related to table tennis and its laws, and in the presence of skilled lecturers in table tennis, where a clear and smooth sequence appeared in the presentation of the course in terms of learning about the history of the game of table tennis. Al-Maamaria indicated that the practical application was excellent, with the availability of tools, the table, and the appropriate and prepared place for the game, as there was a great interaction with the coach from the participants and the response, and feedback was given to the development and improvement of performance.

As for how to benefit from this course, Al-Maamari pointed out that this course is a breakthrough for women’s sports in table tennis and opens up wide areas for the participants in the game. The participants can form a team, train it and participate in the tournaments that will be held in the coming days. Then she will be able to implement similar courses for her colleagues in the governorate, as well as the fact that the trainer is from the female staff, which will encourage that community to engage their girls in the game and enjoy it without any restrictions that hinder them. And what distinguishes this course from others, Al-Maamari pointed out that what distinguished this course was that for the first time a special course was held to train women’s staff to become trainers, as well as in terms of organization, supervision and the course’s conduct in an integrated manner in all respects, as well as the course’s lecturers who are internationally accredited and proficient in the material and the game .

While the participant, Amal bint Suleiman Al-Mahrooqiah from Al-Bashaer Club, explained that she had previously participated in such courses, especially as a university student studying physical education and sports sciences, and that her need to participate in many of these courses facilitates building a path to a better future and not being satisfied with the education path only.
