HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth will patronize over the closing ceremony of the Camel Festival. The event is organized by Oman Camel Racing Federation from 29 October until 1 November 2021 at the Royal Camel CorpsRacecourse in Al Fulaij, Barka. The President of the Omani Camel Racing Federation, Sheikh Saeed bin Saud Al Ghufaili, said that this year’s festival comes as a continuation of the generous support of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq – may God protect him and his care -, as well as the support from His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, who directed the establishment of a camel festival in the Sultanate during the period from October 29 to November 1, after the camel racing season stopped last year due to the Corona pandemic, which affected many events and activities including sports competitions and championships.
The head of the Omani Camel Racing Federation said: “This race has received unlimited support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, as it holds great importance to the sport of camel racing in the Sultanate, which is practiced by a large segment of the Omani society, and in which camel owners are keen to participate in it continuously.” Al-Ghufaili added: “The members of the Board of Directors of the Omani Camel Racing Federation express their deep thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said for his generous sponsorship of the closing ceremony and the closing runs of this festival, which is considered to be the most prominent sporting event for this year in the Sultanate, stressing that His Highness’s patronage is a source of pride for all camel owners and camels in Oman and an incentive to provide better performance and greater interest in the sport of out ancestors.
In the details of the race, Sheikh Saeed Al Ghufaili added: The race will be held over four consecutive days at the Royal Hajana Track in Al Fulaij, with a total of 63 runs. The first day will be devoted to “Al Haqayq” category with 26 runs, where there will be valuable prizes, including a token and a Land Cruiser station for the winner of the open race, and a token and Land Cruiser Pickup for the second half of “Jadan”. There will be car prizes for the first place winners until the eighth game, which will be followed by cash prizes. As for the second day of the festival schedule, “Al Laqaya” category will start for a distance of 4 kilometers, with a total of 17 runs, which will also include valuable prizes comprising of cars and cash. The third day of the festival will be allocated to “Al Yathaa” category for a distance of 5 kilometers with a total of 10 runs, where prizes will comprise of tokens, cars and cash.
As for the last day, the closing ceremony will be held and will be organized by the federation in cooperation with the Royal Cavalry, and will present many different shows to the public under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth. Sheikh Saeed bin Saud Al-Ghufaili, President of the Omani Camel Racing Federation, concluded by saying that all the committees working in this festival are keen on the success of the race and seek to improve it even more through the cooperation of all participants, in addition to camel owners; as their cooperation counts to be the most crucial of all, especially in implementing the regulations and laws established by the Federation to achieve continuous success.
