Sheikh Said bin Saud Al Ghufaili, President of the Omani Camel Racing Federation, valued the guidance provided by His Highness Sayyid Dhi Yazan bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, on supporting camel racing fields in 43 governorates of the Sultanate. He explained that the Board of Directors of the Omani Camel Racing Federation expresses its deep appreciation and gratitude for the directives of His Highness, which come to preserve this cultural heritage and the continuation of the unlimited support of the wise government as an important economic resource for all workers in this authentic sports sector.
The head of the Omani Camel Racing Federation said that supporting races and preserving them as a symbol of our authentic Arab heritage. It also will provide support to a large group of citizens dealing with this sport and ensuring their self-interest and other groups of society in relation to camel breeding, racing and those involved in the activities and events for camel races in all governorates. The Federation is preparing programs for the racing season in the various governorates of the Sultanate, including the competitive (Al-Rais), Al-Ardah, Al-Mazayna and Al-Mahalaba through an annual program.
Sheikh Saeed Al-Ghufaili confirmed that the federation is supervising the main fields of camel racing in the Sultanate. It also counts the existing fields in all the governorates and states and estimates the cost of establishing new fields as well as maintaining existing ones. Within the framework of the Federation’s, the plan is to maintain the racing fields according to the availability of financial capabilities.
He pointed out that camel racing is one of the authentic sports that the Arabs have practiced since ancient times and has been inherited by generations to this day. It is still loved by grandparents, and this love has extended to young people in the present time, but this sport is still clinging to its position and arousing enthusiasm in the hearts of adults and children in current times.
For this reason, The Sultanate of Oman has a special passion for camel racing because of camel racing, as is the case in other Arab Gulf countries as it is one of the most important civilizational and cultural legacies that have historically been linked to the lives of citizens since ancient times. Since its official and public interest has soared, it has become an important economic resource for many camel breeders. These races have become one of the most popular sports and have attracted many fans from different segments of the Omani society of these competitions because they find fun and excitement during the camel races.
