The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth organized in its General Directorate of Sports Activities a workshop about “Governance in Sports Organizations”, presented Hilal bin Abdullah al-Maamari, the Program Coordinator of the Special Bodies Department of the Ministry in the meeting room in the department of the project in the Ministry’s General Diwan in Rewi and attended by Khalifa bin Saif Al-Esai, Director General of Sports Activities, and several employees of the Ministry attended the event. Also, it introduced the framework of the lectures that will be held during this period. In addition, Khalifa Bin Saif Al-Esai, Director General of Sports Activities, the General Directorate of Sports Activities explained that the pursuit to raise awareness and educate its employees, the General Directorate of Sports Activities formulated a proposal for finding some topics and proposals from the Ministry’s cadres in close coordination with Human Resource Department in the organization of some lectures and workshops. Noting that this is the first episode and there is a plan for episodes to come in 2020 and next year 2021. Al-Asaei added that there had been an evolution in the level of the workshops and the rich interaction and debate that had taken place in the workshop today and that there was the greatest evidence of the development of the workshops. Moreover, there had to be prepared for what was coming, and the Directorate is working within this framework, hoping that the next episodes and lectures will see a similar and perhaps more interaction.

Governance in Sports Organizations
The workshop included five axes, including 1- the understanding and genesis of governance, 2- the principles of governance, 3- the importance of governance for sports, 4- governance bodies in the Sultanate. Hilal Al-Ma’mari reviewed several concepts of governance. Perhaps the broader concept of government was a system of oversight that defined the responsibilities, rights, duties, and relationships that led to decision-making concerning the institution and were based on justice, transparency, trust, and credibility in the working environment. Then Al-Maamari moved on to talk about the principles of governance, which are three main key principles. Firstly, the existence of a general legal and legislative framework in the State that protects the rights of all individuals in society. Second, equal treatment and equity among all individuals. Third, transparency and disclosure, followed by accountability and accountability.

Al-Maamari explained that the importance of the application of governance, which consists of achieving harmonization between separation and balance and the authority of the body (the General Assembly), the Governing Council, and the executive organs through the laws and regulations, the promotion of transparency and accountability. Enrichment of experience and knowledge
Zaina Bint Abdallah Al-Yariya, Director of the Department of Qualitative Bodies, explained that the Directorate-General for Sports Activities was keen to enrich the expertise and knowledge of the Ministry’s staff. The organization of workshops and lectures has helped to enrich the knowledge of the Ministry’s staff and to create an interaction and observations that contribute to the development of performance.
